The HSMIMP is to be built using multiple processors and multiple memory modules in order to meet the needs for attachment of larger number of Hosts (local area networks have not yet been invented).  The interrupt-driven structure for single-processor programs is not appropriate for a multi-processor I/O-intensive system.  The HSMIMP programming structure will be based on code “strips” with a strict limit on maximum execution time, and a hardware priority-based task dispatcher.
